About Me
I'm pretty strange as far as the world of tech goes. I was a pre-med biochemistry/public policy student at Duke University who conveniently figured out senior year that I did not want to be a doctor. After some soul searching, I decided I wanted to go into technology entrepreneurship. Not being a classically trained computer programmer, I figured the best way to start my career was to become some type of engineer. This plan led me to Cornell University where I got a masters in chemical engineering. Through cunning strategy and ridiculously good luck, I transitioned into data science.
As a data scientist, I've worked on problems in various industries including energy, marketing, finance, and consumer tech. I'm a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, utilizing machine learning, web development, scripting, and data analysis to solve business problems. I'm currently the co-founder and CTO of Lontra Analytics, a company dedicated to building intelligent e-commerce software powered by data.
Outside of work, I have also been afforded a couple other amazing opportunities in my life. In 2018, I spent a year as a digital nomad traveling to over 15 different countries with Remote Year. I also co-authored some books on SQL, and its use in analytics. I also mentor several folks on the platform Sharpestminds, where I've been fortunate enough to help 5 people start productive careers in data science and analytics.
In my spare time, I love hiking, reading a good book, playing with my dog, and finding some way to enjoy running.
